Mae Katherine Salters, 61, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.She was born July 12, 1953 in Little Rock, AR, the daughter of Ethel Mae Yancy and James Harris and was later adopted by Jerry and Elnora (Payne) Moore who raised her.A 1972 graduate of Ashtabula High School, she attended Ohio State University where she studied Home Economics.Mae had been a part-owner of Bestway Fashions, owner of Hem of His Garments, a seamstress for Globe Bell, and also worked for Molded Fiberglass and Premix.A founder of Ghana Outreach Ministries and GO Community Development Corporation, she established the soup kitchen and food pantry at their facility, as well as organized the annual Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas Party for the needy in the community.She was graced with an impeccable gift of vocal artistry. Her singing was heard at numerous church functions, services, funerals, and other events, mostly known for her renditions of “I Won’t Complain” and “One Day at a Time.”Mae will long be remembered for her giving nature and selfless sacrifice, always looking to do for others before thinking of herself. Her passing will be a loss to countless family, friends, and strangers whose lives giving nature and beautiful voice have touched.She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Bishop John Salters; three children, Andrea Ridgeway-Holland of Cleveland Hts., Sanders “JR” (Jameela) Ridgeway of Columbus, and Isaiah R. Salters of Ashtabula; two step-children, Kenya (Garreth Carrington) Salters-Gordon and John Salters, Jr., both of Cleveland; six grandchildren, Kenyante, Arieanna, Tiahne’, Tavian, Andre, and Jamere,; three sisters, Delois Jean (Michael) Terry, Gail Yvonne Wallace, and Diana Gail (LC Davis) Lamar-Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.She was preceded in by death her parents; one brother, Thomas Wayne; one sister, Vernitter Ann Patterson.A service will be held 11 AM Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Gateway Church, 2300 Austinburg Road, Austinburg. Elder Carl Salters, Pastor of Solomon’s Temple COGIC will officiate with her nephew, Rev. Carlos Wallace, Pastor of Word of Truth Christian Fellowship, delivering the eulogy.
